Underlined by hypnotic afro percussion and punctuated with funky bass grooves, haunting melodies on traditional Celtic whistles and soprano saxophone are set against a backdrop of contemporary jazz sounds on acoustic piano and synthesizer.
MickMac perform a unique blend of traditional Celtic melody, Jazz harmony and Afro rhythm.

MickMac was formed by two Scottish musicians based in France, Neil Gerstenberg (penny-whistle, low whistle and saxophones) and Ronnie Rae Jr (acoustic piano, synthesizer). Having played jazz, funk and celtic music together in various groups over a period of 10 years they decided to weave these separate strands into one.In 2002, MickMac was born, and in February 2003 the group was selected by the local government of PACA (South of France) to perform throughout the region, performing concerts including the "Theatre Lino Ventura" and the Brignoles Jazz Festival. A CD release is planned for 2005 but funding by local government has its drawbacks... MickMac are currently looking for serious management/promotion/funding in order to make "Celtic Jazz" as well known as "Acid Jazz". If you can help please contact us.
